Gel superglue grabs in seconds but gives no second chance, and two-part putty has to be mixed and left to cure. Aqua Medic Hot Construct 100g (SKU: AM42080) is Aqua Medic’s easy-to-use synthetic adhesive for quick bonding of coral fragments, supplied as beads that soften in hot water and set again as they cool. It contains no solvents, it can be used both above and under water, and any material that is not used can be reactivated in hot water and used again, so very little of the pack goes to waste. The pack contains about 100 g.

Aqua Medic’s directions are simple. Put the amount needed into water of at least 65 °C and wait until the beads turn glassy, then lift the softened glue out, taking care because it is hot, and knead it into an even mass. Work quickly: the material reaches its final firmness about 60 seconds after it has cooled. The surface it is pressed onto should be as free as possible of deposits and algae, so old frag plugs and rock are best scrubbed first. Water from a kettle shortly after boiling is well above 65 °C, and a mug or small bowl is enough to soften a working portion. Because the bond forms by cooling rather than a chemical reaction, there is no mixing ratio to get wrong and no curing time to wait out, and leftover glue goes back into the pack for next time.
