A bare overflow edge takes water in a sheet, along with whatever happens to be floating on it, and a small fish can be carried over with the flow. Aqua Medic Overflow Comb 32 Incl. Holder (SKU: AM41800) is Aqua Medic’s 32 cm overflow comb supplied with its holder, made to sit on the top edge of an overflow chamber. Water passes between the teeth evenly along the whole length, while fish, plant matter and coarse detritus are kept out of the overflow chamber and away from the drain. The holder is glued to the overflow chamber once, and the comb presses securely into it, staying firm in use yet easy to lift out when it needs cleaning.

The comb is about 32 cm long and about 6 cm high, with teeth of about 2.2 cm, shorter than the 3.7 cm teeth on Aqua Medic’s 40 and 50 cm combs. Because the teeth spread the intake across the full width, the surface is skimmed evenly and the water level in the display settles a little below the top of the slots rather than at a hard edge. Mounting the holder permanently means the comb always goes back in exactly the same place after maintenance, with no clips to reposition. Algae and coralline will eventually narrow the gaps between the teeth, so the comb is best lifted out and brushed clean every few weeks, before the slots restrict flow and the water level in the display creeps up.
