Broadcast feeding sends most of a coral food into the overflow and the fish, while the polyps it was meant for get a few grains. Aqua Medic Pipette 35 (includes 2 Dosing Tips) (SKU: AM39040) is Aqua Medic’s long feeding pipette, about 35 cm in length, made for precise feeding of fish and corals and for dosing medications selectively at a chosen spot. It is the shorter of two lengths in the range: the same pipette is made at about 60 cm (item 39041) for deeper tanks, and this 35 cm version is Aqua Medic item 39040. Two dosing tips come in the pack.

The dosing tips are what make one pipette suit several jobs. As supplied they give a fine stream for small particles and liquid foods; Aqua Medic’s note is that the tips can be shortened, which widens the opening so coarser particles or viscous solutions can be dispensed without clogging. Cutting one tip and keeping the other uncut gives a fine and a coarse option in the same pack. At about 35 cm the pipette reaches the rockwork and sand bed of most nano and mid-depth aquariums while the hand stays above the water, and it is short enough to handle easily around lights and lids. Uses run from mysis or pellet foods placed on an LPS mouth, to a dose of medication or coral dip directed at one fish or colony, to liquid additives released next to a pump inlet so they mix quickly.

How to Use

• Prepare the food: Mix food with a little tank water in a cup so it draws up evenly.
• Choose a tip: Leave a tip uncut for fine foods, or trim one for coarser particles or thick liquids.
• Release slowly: Bring the tip close to the coral or fish and press out the contents gently, turning pumps down if the flow scatters the food.
• Rinse after use: Flush the pipette with clean water so food residues do not foul it.
