A straight frame cannot pass a light arm or an overflow without a gap, and a gap is where the fish go. Red Sea Tank Net Screen Cut Out 15/40mm (SKU: RED265) is Red Sea’s set of pre-formed zig-zag cut-out profiles for its DIY Net Cover system, used to step the aluminium frame neatly around rim-mounted items such as a light mounting arm, a cable, a pipe or overflow pass-through or an automatic feeder. Red Sea says the factory-formed shape gives a cleaner, tidier cut-out than hand-made notches and keeps the mesh tension better than cutting into a straight profile.

The pack holds four pieces: a left and a right at 15 mm and a left and a right at 40 mm, the two figures being the depth of the step, so smaller and medium protrusions can each be followed closely. It is a component set, not a cover, for any Red Sea DIY Net Cover frame from 60 cm (RED260) to 180 cm. On REEFER Deluxe tanks with universal light mounts Red Sea specifies one kit for a 250, two for a 350 or XL 425, three for a 450, XL 525 or XXL 625, and four for an XXL 750. Irregular shapes take the universal cut-out kit.

Usage & Application

When to Use

• Lights on universal mounting arms: REEFER Deluxe systems where the arm crosses the rim.
• Pipes and cables: Return lines, overflow pass-throughs and heater or pump cords on the rim.
• Automatic feeders: A stepped opening that leaves the feeder in place with the cover on.
• Replacing rough notches: Tidying an existing cover whose hand-cut gaps have loosened the mesh.

Installation Guide

• Choose the depth: 15 mm for cables and slim brackets, 40 mm for pipes and light arms.
• Pair left and right: Each cut-out uses a matched left and right piece joined to the straight profiles with inner and outer corners.
• Cut the frame to meet them: Shorten the adjoining profiles so the zig-zag sits exactly at the obstruction.
• Mesh as normal: Roll the spline around the stepped section the same way as the rest of the frame.
