Large display tanks and fish-room systems move hundreds or thousands of litres an hour through their drains, and a bulkhead that is too small becomes the bottleneck of the whole system. Aqua Medic Tank Union TV40 (Hole Size Required = 55-60mm) (SKU: AM41740) is the largest of the Aqua Medic ABS tank unions carried here, made for a connection through aquarium glass in a drilled hole of 55 to 60 mm. It joins the aquarium to fixed PVC piping and arrives with a sealing ring and clamping nut. It is compact for its size, and once fitted it allows a tank to be drained almost completely.

Sold as the 40 mm size, the TV40 is the choice where a large return pump or a big overflow needs a wide bore, or where several tanks feed one main drain line. Rigid PVC pipe is glued into it for permanent plumbing, or a hose coupling is connected for a flexible line. The 55 to 60 mm hole should be cut cleanly, as a wide hole puts more load on the glass and leaves no room for chips under the seal; it must only be drilled in annealed glass, never toughened, and kept well clear of edges and corners as the tank maker advises. ABS stays corrosion-free in salt water, so the union suits marine sumps as well as freshwater systems.
