Description

Quantum Zoa Cone Frag Plug 20 Pack — Tapered 18 mm to 7 mm Ceramic Cones for Zoanthids and Nano Corals

Zoanthids do not need a wide disc; they need a base that wedges into a rock crevice and stays put while the polyps spread. Quantum Zoa Cone Frag Plug 20 Pack (SKU: QA700520) is shaped for exactly that: twenty ceramic cones from the Reef Essential range, tapering from 18 mm at the top to 7 mm at the point. The narrow end pushes into a gap in live rock or a rack hole; the broad end carries the frag. The surface is rough, as across the Quantum range, so glue and tissue take hold quickly.

ICP-OES analysis of each batch means the cones are used straight from the pack, without curing, which is a relief when a colony needs thinning tonight rather than after a week of soaking plugs. The taper is the practical part. A cone jammed into rock disappears far more convincingly than a disc glued on top, and once polyps march over the 18 mm face and onto the surrounding rock the plug is invisible. Twenty is a sensible count for a zoanthid keeper trimming colonies every few weeks.

Usage & Application

When to Use

  • Zoanthid and palythoa frags: A single polyp or a small cluster on the 18 mm face grows into a colony over a few months.
  • Rock crevices: The 7 mm point wedges into holes and gaps in live rock without glue, so placement can be changed later.
  • Nano reefs: Small cones suit small tanks where a full-size plug looks oversized against the rockwork.
  • Mushrooms and small softies: Ricordea and discosoma settle well on a compact base they can grow over.

How to Use

  • Use as supplied: No curing or soaking; rinse in tank water if you prefer and mount the same evening.
  • Dry, glue, press: Blot the wide face, add a small bead of coral glue and hold the frag for a few seconds.
  • Wedge or rack: Push the taper into a rock gap, or seat it in a frag-rack hole while the frag establishes over a few weeks.
  • Let the colony hide it: Polyps spread over the face and onto the surrounding rock, leaving no visible base within a few months.

Product Specifications & Highlights

Key Features

  • 18 mm to 7 mm taper: A cone that fits rock crevices and rack holes alike.
  • ICP-OES analysed: Laboratory-tested by batch, which is why the cones need no curing before use.
  • Rough surface: Better grip for glue at mounting time and faster tissue attachment afterwards.
  • Compact footprint: Suits nano tanks and tight rockwork where a disc would look out of place.
  • Made in the United Kingdom: Same manufacture as the rest of the Reef Essential plug range.
