Cichlids that colour up and breed are usually the ones kept in water with the right minerals, not just the right pH. Quantum African Lake MPMC GH 500ml (SKU: QA310500) is the 500 mL size of Quantum’s African Lake Pro Salt GH, a solution of major, minor and trace elements in deionised water formulated to raise general hardness gently and in the ideal ratio for the African lakes. The formula includes macrobiotics, probiotics and vitamin precursors, which Quantum adds to promote beneficial bacteria and enhance fish vitality, and it is designed to be used alongside African Lake Buffer Pro for KH and pH.

The dose is 10 mL per 100 L for a rise of 1 dGH, with a recommended range of 3 to 10 dGH for Malawi and Tanganyika species. Only the replacement water is dosed during a change. Taking 75 L of RO water to 6 dGH for a 300 L tank uses 45 mL, which gives the bottle about eleven weekly changes; a Tanganyika tank held at 9 dGH uses more per change and still gets seven or eight. Many biochemical processes in the fish depend on magnesium and calcium, and this is the bottle that supplies them.
