Quantum African Lake pH Buffer | KH Conditioner 500ml (SKU: QA300500) is the African Lake Buffer Pro from Quantum’s freshwater range, a solution of safe KH and pH salts in deionised water that raises carbonate hardness to the level the keeper chooses while regulating pH to match the rift lakes. Ten millilitres per 100 L raises KH by 1 dKH. The targets depend on the lake: Malawi and Victoria fish are kept at 4 to 8 dKH and pH 7.8 to 8.5, Tanganyika fish at 7 to 12 dKH and pH 8.5 to 9.2. When water is changed, only the replacement volume is dosed. Conditioning 75 L of RO water to 6 dKH for a 300 L tank takes 45 mL, so a 500 mL bottle lasts about eleven weekly changes, and a Tanganyika tank at 10 dKH uses it roughly half as long.

When to Use

• Mid-sized rift lake tanks: Malawi, Victoria and Tanganyika aquariums of 200 to 400 L.

• Tanganyika keepers: Frontosa, tropheus and shell-dweller tanks that need the higher range.

• Set the target by species: Malawi and Victoria at 4 to 8 dKH, Tanganyika at 7 to 12 dKH, with the matching pH bands.
• Calculate: 10 mL per 100 L for each 1 dKH of rise wanted.
• Change-water dosing: Treat the new water only, then carry on with the change as usual.
