Quantum African Lake pH Buffer | KH Conditioner 5L — Bulk Rift Lake Buffer for Fish Rooms and Cichlid Breeders

Cichlid breeders run rows of tanks at lake chemistry, and conditioning that much change water calls for buffer by the drum. Quantum African Lake pH Buffer | KH Conditioner 5L (SKU: QA305000) is the bulk size of Quantum’s African Lake Buffer Pro, a solution of safe KH and pH salts in deionised water that raises carbonate hardness to the chosen level while regulating pH to match the African lakes. It is meant to be used with African Lake Pro Salt GH, because a rift lake aquarium is only as stable as the balance between its temperature, GH, KH and pH.

The rate does not change with the container: 10 mL per 100 L raises KH by 1 dKH, and at a water change only the replacement volume is dosed. Targets are 4 to 8 dKH with pH 7.8 to 8.5 for Malawi and Victoria fish, and 7 to 12 dKH with pH 8.5 to 9.2 for Tanganyika. A fish room changing 500 L a week from RO water to 6 dKH uses 300 mL, so 5 L covers around sixteen weeks, and a single 500 L display at the same rate would run for well over a year.

• Target by lake: Malawi and Victoria at 4 to 8 dKH, pH 7.8 to 8.5; Tanganyika at 7 to 12 dKH, pH 8.5 to 9.2.
• Dose the reservoir: 10 mL per 100 L for each 1 dKH of rise, on the volume being conditioned.
• Change water only: Treat the replacement water, not the whole system, at each change.
• Keep GH in step: Dose African Lake Pro Salt GH alongside for general hardness.
