Discus that refuse to eat in pure RO water often perk up once a little general hardness is restored, because the minerals matter to the fish as much as the softness does. Quantum Amazon River MPMC GH 500ml (SKU: QA340500) is the 500 mL size of Quantum’s Amazon River Pro Salt GH, a solution of major, minor and trace elements in deionised water formulated to raise GH gently and in the ratio of Amazon river water. Macrobiotics, probiotics and vitamin precursors are included to promote beneficial bacteria and fish vitality, and it is designed to be used with Amazon River pH Pro and Amazon River KH Pro.

Ten millilitres per 100 L raises general hardness by 0.5 dGH, with a recommended range of 1 to 3 dGH, and only the replacement water is dosed at a change. Taking 75 L of RO to 2 dGH for a 300 L discus tank uses 30 mL, which gives the bottle about sixteen weekly changes; a planted tank held at 3 dGH uses a little more. Many biochemical processes in the fish depend on magnesium and calcium, and in soft water this bottle is the only place those elements come from.
