A tank that reads pH 7.4 on Sunday and 6.6 on Wednesday has a KH problem, not a pH problem. Quantum Aqua Pro KH 550g (SKU: QA430550) is Quantum’s Freshwater Essential Plant Essential Aqua Pro KH, a blend of KH buffer salts formulated to raise carbonate hardness gently and improve pH stability. When KH is regulated the pH stops fluctuating and the biochemical processes of fish, shrimp and plants run as they should. It comes with a level scoop, suits every type of freshwater aquarium, and Quantum publishes a KH range for each.

The dose is 5 g, one level scoop, per 100 L for a rise of about 1.4 dKH. Powder never goes directly into the tank; it is dissolved in a vessel of aquarium water first, then added into high flow. Only the replacement water is dosed at a change, and evaporation top-ups are not dosed at all. Quantum’s targets include 1 to 3 dKH for community and high-tech planted tanks, 2 to 6 for shrimp and 4 to 8 for Malawi. The 550 g pack holds about 110 scoops, which on a 200 L community tank changing 50 L a week to 2 dKH is well over a year.
