A 300 L discus tank filled from alkaline tap water needs its pH brought down at every change, and that is a job for the 500 mL bottle. Quantum Aqua Pro pH Down 500ml (SKU: QA450500) is the mid size of Quantum’s Freshwater Essential Plant Essential Aqua Pro pH Down, a solution of buffered sulphuric acid in deionised water formulated to decrease pH safely. Holding pH steady protects the biochemistry of fish, shrimp and plants from the fluctuation an unregulated tank suffers, and Quantum rates the product for planted, fish-only, shrimp and pond systems.

The dose is half a capful, about 5 mL, per 100 L for a fall of roughly 0.2 pH, added into high water flow without shaking, and no correction should exceed 0.3 pH in a day. On a 300 L tank a 0.2 drop takes 15 mL, so the bottle covers more than thirty corrections. Quantum’s targets run from 6.0 to 7.0 for South American species and 6.0 to 6.8 for high-tech planted tanks to 6.5 to 7.5 for community and shrimp. Dosage varies between aquariums, so incremental dosing with a test after each step is the method, and the solution is not for dosing pumps.
