Alkalinity is the parameter a nano reef loses fastest, and a small bottle of buffer dosed daily is the simplest way to hold it. Quantum Aragonite B 250ml (SKU: QA110250) is the alkalinity part of the three-part Aragonite system, a buffer solution in deionised water, made to be dosed alongside Aragonite A for calcium and Aragonite C for magnesium. Each millilitre per 100 L raises alkalinity by about 0.1 dKH, a small step that lets a keeper creep up on a target without the swings that stress small-polyp corals.

Quantum’s window for alkalinity is 7.4 to 10.5 dKH, or 132 to 188 ppm, with the low end suiting SPS systems and the high end LPS tanks. The daily rate is 0.5, 0.75 or 1.0 mL per 100 L for light, moderate or heavy consumption, and it is adjusted from tests taken at the same time each week. The solution runs through a dosing pump, and it should be added into high flow at a different point from the calcium part so the two never meet undiluted. At 0.75 mL per 100 L a 250 mL bottle covers a 60 L nano for around eighteen months.

Dosing & Administration Guide

• Test alkalinity first: Start at 0.5 mL per 100 L per day and increase to 0.75 or 1.0 mL if the reading keeps falling.
• Dose into flow: Add in a high-flow area, at a separate point and time from Aragonite A.
• Move slowly: Each 1 mL per 100 L is about 0.1 dKH, so correct a shortfall over several days.
• Retest weekly: Hold the tank within 7.4 to 10.5 dKH and adjust the daily dose in small steps.
