Retail systems take in new stock every week, and every delivery brings ammonia the filter did not plan for. Quantum Bio-active Zeolite 12kg (SKU: QA601212) is the trade pack of Quantum’s natural zeolite media, which removes ammonia and ammonium, nitrite, nutrients, heavy metals and other unwanted molecules from aquarium and pond water. The grade was originally used to sanitise human drinking water, and its smaller, consistent particle size gives beneficial bacteria a large surface to colonise. It is safe across freshwater, planted, pond, FOWLR and reef systems, which suits a shop running all of them.

At 30, 50 or 70 g per 100 L per month for light, moderate or heavy stocking, 12 kg is a month’s media for about 17,000 L heavily stocked or 40,000 L lightly stocked. A shop with 6,000 L of holding tanks at the heavy rate uses 4.2 kg a month and gets nearly three months from the pack; a 20,000 L koi pond at the light rate uses 6 kg. The media goes in the non-metallic zip bag supplied, or several bags, in reactors or high-flow areas, kept apart from activated carbon. Parameters are monitored and supplemented, since zeolite removes nutrients and trace elements too.
