A pond in spring and a fish room in quarantine season both need ammonia control by the kilogram. Quantum Bio-active Zeolite 6kg (SKU: QA606000) is a natural zeolite that removes ammonia and ammonium, nitrite, nutrients, heavy metals and other unwanted molecules from aquarium and pond water. The grade Quantum uses was originally developed to sanitise human drinking water, and its smaller, more consistent particles give beneficial bacteria more surface to settle on, so the media works chemically and biologically at once. It is safe in freshwater, planted, pond, FOWLR and reef systems.

The monthly dose is 30, 50 or 70 g per 100 L for light, moderate or heavy stocking, which makes 6 kg a month’s media for about 8,500 L heavily stocked or 20,000 L lightly stocked. A 5,000 L pond at the moderate rate uses 2.5 kg a month, so the pack covers most of a season. The media goes in the non-metallic zip bag supplied and sits in a reactor or a high-flow area; activated carbon can run alongside in its own bag but is never mixed in. Zeolite strips nutrients and trace elements along with toxins, so parameters are monitored and supplemented as needed.

Usage & Application

When to Use

• Ponds: Spring start-up, when the filter is cold and slow, and summer ammonia control on several thousand litres.
• Large displays: Tanks of 800 L and more that go through a kilogram or so of media a month.
• Quarantine and fish rooms: Several tanks protected at once while new filters mature or after a medication course.
• Marine systems: Large FOWLR and reef tanks as well as freshwater, since the media is rated for both.

Placement & Flow Guide

• Weigh per system: 30, 50 or 70 g per 100 L per month by stocking, kitchen scales are accurate enough.
• Reactor or high flow: In the supplied zip bag, or split into several bags across a large pond filter.
• Carbon separately: Activated carbon may run alongside but never in the same bag as the zeolite.
• Monthly change, regular tests: Replace the media each month and supplement the elements it removes.
