Amino acid dosing has become a fixture on SPS systems because the difference in tissue thickness and colour is visible within weeks. Quantum Bio-Enhance 500ml (SKU: QA230500) is Quantum’s version in the size a 300 L reef uses for seven months: a blend of amino acids, vitamins, carbohydrates, protein, fatty acids, energy and cellular bound nourishment enhancers in deionised water, formulated to improve colour, induce feeding responses, increase vitality and boost immunity. Quantum lists it for LPS, mixed, SPS and NPS systems; the bottle is dosed by the millilitre per 100 L and carries a 10 mL capful.

Quantum sets the rate at 0.50, 0.75 or 1.00 mL per 100 L a day, depending on whether stocking is light, moderate or heavy, and the dose goes straight into high water flow. Nothing needs shaking, nothing needs refrigerating, and a dosing pump can carry the routine. A 300 L reef on the moderate rate uses 2.25 mL a day, so the bottle lasts a little over seven months. Because the effect on polyp extension is quick, most keepers can tell within a week whether the rate suits their tank.
