Large reefs that run kalkwasser through a reactor or a nightly drip use it by the kilogram, and Quantum Bio-Kalkwasser 2.2kg (SKU: QA132200) is the pack for that scale. It is calcium hydroxide with the energy component common to the Reef Essential range, supplying hydroxide and calcium in one dose: the hydroxide raises pH and converts excess carbon dioxide into carbonate, the calcium builds aragonite, and alkalinity and pH stability improve together. At the manufacturer’s mixing rate the 2.2 kg pack makes 8,800 L of kalkwasser solution, enough for a season on a large system.

The rate scales with stocking: 1 g per 100 L of aquarium dissolved in 4 L of RODI water for a lightly stocked tank, giving about 6 ppm of calcium; 2 g per 100 L in 4 L for 12 ppm on a moderate tank; and 3 g in 4 L for 18 ppm on a heavily stocked one. Quantum’s ceiling is 18 ppm of calcium per night when other calcium dosing is running too. Only the clear supernatant goes into the tank, dripped slowly so pH rises gently, while the undissolved material stays behind. Aim for 405 to 440 ppm calcium and pH 8.1 to 8.5.

Preparation & Dosing Guide

• Weigh for the system: 1, 2 or 3 g per 100 L of aquarium by stocking, each dissolved in 4 L of RODI water; a 600 L reef at the moderate rate uses 12 g in 48 L.
• Mix in a closed container: Stir thoroughly, keep air contact minimal and let the sediment settle before dosing.
• Drip the clear layer slowly: Overnight delivery into flow, with the undissolved white material never entering the aquarium.
• Hold the nightly cap: 18 ppm of calcium per night at most, including any two-part or reactor input; test calcium weekly and pH daily.
