Quantum Bio-Molecules 250ml — Bioavailable Phosphate Supplement for Planted Tank Growth

A planted tank that has stopped growing while its nitrate sits comfortably at 20 ppm is usually short of phosphate. Quantum Bio-Molecules 250ml (SKU: QA470250) is Quantum’s Plant Essential Bio-Molecules in its most common size, a solution of phosphorus as bioavailable phosphate in deionised water, formulated to increase phosphate safely and stimulate plant growth. Plants build DNA, proteins and their energy-storage molecules from phosphate, so it is not optional; the trick is to supply it in a measured way. This is the phosphorus part of Quantum’s NPKFe Enhancers.

The daily dose per 100 L is 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0 mL for lightly, moderately or heavily planted tanks without CO₂, and 2.0, 4.0 or 6.0 mL where CO₂ is injected. Each 1 mL per 100 L raises phosphate by about 0.04 ppm, against a recommended range of 0.15 to 1.0 ppm. It goes directly into high water flow without shaking and suits dosing pumps. A 100 L moderately planted low-tech tank uses 2 mL a day, so the bottle lasts about four months; a high-tech tank of the same size uses it in two. Bio-Nutrients and Bio-Trace supply the rest of the regime.

Usage & Application

When to Use

• Small to mid-sized planted tanks: Scapes of 60 to 200 L that test low on phosphate.
• Green spot algae: Hard green dots on glass and slow leaves, the usual sign of low phosphate.
• Balancing a fertiliser regime: Tanks that already dose nitrogen and potassium but not phosphorus.
• RO-based planted tanks: Systems whose water brings no phosphate of its own.

Dosing & Administration Guide

• Test, then choose the scale: Phosphate reading first, then the low-tech or CO₂ column and the planting density.
• 1 to 6 mL per 100 L daily: 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0 mL of phosphate solution without CO₂; twice that with it.
• High flow, no shaking: Hand dose or pump the phosphate into strong circulation.
• Hold 0.15 to 1.0 ppm: Retest weekly; each 1 mL per 100 L is about 0.04 ppm.
