Detritus settles into live rock faster than a siphon can chase it, and a brown film on the rockwork is what most reef keepers mean when they say the tank looks tired. Continuum Clean Equation M 250mL (SKU: QCEM250) is Continuum Aquatics’ reef-safe marine flocculant and cleaner, designed to target and gently clean the surfaces of live rock, live coral, coral decorations and tank walls, removing stains and loosening and softening debris so it can be vacuumed or caught by mechanical filtration. It is not an algaecide; it works by loosening the grip of coatings and flocculating suspended particles so the filter can hold them.

The programme runs over six days per 190 L of aquarium volume, escalating from half a 5 mL capful on day one to three capfuls on day six, then 7.5 mL every other day or as needed for maintenance. Before the first dose the activated carbon comes out and fine filter floss goes in, changed daily while the skimmer keeps running. Continuum requires an established biological filter with zero ammonia and nitrite. A full six-day course on a 190 L reef uses 52.5 mL, so the bottle covers the course and about seven weeks of maintenance on a tank that size.

When to Use

• Dull, coated rockwork: Live rock and coral skeletons carrying a film of detritus and stains.
• Before a deep clean: Loosening debris the day before a siphon-and-water-change session.
• Cloudy or hazy water: Flocculating fine suspended particles for the floss to catch.
• Established reefs only: Systems with mature biological filtration and stable ammonia and nitrite at zero.

Dosing & Administration Guide

• Prepare the filter: Remove activated carbon, fit fine filter floss, shake the bottle well.
• Six-day programme per 190 L: 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5 and 15 mL on days one to six.
• Maintenance: 7.5 mL (1.5 capfuls) every other day or as needed, then return the carbon.
• Keep skimming: Run the skimmer throughout, clean its cup and change the floss daily; do not combine with an algaecide.
