A small reef with a few stony corals uses calcium faster than many keepers expect, and weekly water changes alone are a slow way to replace it. Coral Essentials Calcium+Trace 500ml (SKU: CE-CAL500) is the smallest bottle of Coral Essentials’ Calcium + Trace, a concentrated liquid calcium at 100,000 ppm (mg/L) blended with the Brisbane company’s Coral Power Trace A and B elements. Because the trace elements are already in the mix, Coral Essentials says there is no need to add trace elements separately. It is part of the maker’s Primary Care range and is dosed alongside Carbonate + Trace to keep calcium and alkalinity in step.

The strength makes the maths simple: 1 mL raises calcium by about 1 ppm in 100 L of water. Coral Essentials gives two ways to dose. The simple recipe is a daily 3 mL per 100 L for a soft coral or LPS tank, 6 mL for a mixed reef and 12 mL for an SPS-dominant system. The alternative is to test calcium regularly and match the dose to the measured depletion with the maker’s Primary Elements Dosing Calculator. The target is about 430 to 470 ppm for most aquariums. On a 100 L mixed reef this 500 mL bottle lasts roughly 83 days at 6 mL a day, and a 60 L soft coral tank takes about nine months to use it.
