A blue-green slick spreading across the gravel and rockwork is cyanobacteria, not true algae, and the copper-based cures sold against algae can just as easily harm shrimp and plants. Easy-Life Bio-Exit Blue 500ml (SKU: 725128) is the 500 mL size of Easy-Life’s copper-free cyanobacteria treatment for freshwater aquariums, made by the Dutch manufacturer Easy-Life International BV. Rather than poisoning the bacterial mat directly, it works by feeding and encouraging the heterotrophic bacteria already living in the substrate, which then outcompete the cyanobacteria and restore the tank’s microbial balance. The course runs over fourteen days with two doses and a single water change at the end, and no water needs to be changed while it is working.
