Hair, beard and brush algae usually turn up because the plants are losing the nutrient race, leaking sugars that feed the very algae smothering them. Easy-Life Bio-Exit Green 250ml (SKU: 725124) is the 250 mL size of Easy-Life’s freshwater algae treatment, a liquid of organic acids and growth stimulators from the Dutch manufacturer Easy-Life International BV that works on the plants rather than the algae. By correcting the imbalance that caused the sugar leak in the first place, it lets the plants out-grow and out-compete hair, beard, brush and brown algae over a two-week course. It is a small bottle sized for a single planted tank rather than a fish room running several outbreaks at once, and Easy-Life describes it as safe for fish, plants, shrimp and other invertebrates when dosed as directed.

The dose is 10 mL per 40 L of aquarium water, or 0.25 mL per litre, given on day one and again on day seven, with activated carbon removed from the filter beforehand so it does not strip the treatment out of the water. A water change on day fourteen finishes the course and clears the spent product from the system; no other water changes are needed while the treatment is running. A full course uses 20 mL per 40 L, so the 250 mL bottle covers around twelve and a half courses in a 40 L aquarium, or one course across roughly 500 L, enough for a single planted tank to be treated repeatedly as new algae flushes appear. Easy-Life recommends the course be repeated if the first round does not clear the algae completely.
