Pale new leaves and stalled stems in a planted tank usually point to missing iron, potassium or trace elements rather than a lack of light. Easy-Life ProFito (universal Plant Fertilizer) 500ml (SKU: 100874) is Easy-Life’s concentrated all-in-one liquid fertiliser for every kind of aquarium plant, made by Easy Life International in Duiven, the Netherlands. It supplies iron, potassium and magnesium in high concentrations, together with a broad spread of trace elements including manganese, boron, molybdenum, copper, zinc, cobalt, nickel, iodine and selenium. It contains no nitrate or phosphate, which leaves those two macronutrients to come from fish waste or a separate fertiliser.

Easy-Life says ProFito promotes stronger, denser growth, wider leaves and more vivid colours by stimulating the plants’ production of cytokinins, the hormones that drive new shoots. The standard dose is 10 mL per 100 L of aquarium water once a week, or one-seventh of that amount daily for keepers who prefer to dose little and often. In a newly planted tank, start with about a third of the dose for the first couple of weeks. The weekly amount can then be adjusted by around 40 per cent either way: pale-green new leaves call for more, while algae or a halt in growth suggest less. At the standard rate the 500 mL bottle gives 50 weekly doses for a 100 L tank, close to a year, or about six months in a 200 L aquarium. Chelators and antioxidants keep the formula stable; store it somewhere cool and dark, and do not worry if the liquid varies from dark green to dark brown, which Easy-Life says does not indicate any change in quality.
