Red plants in an aquascape often lose their colour and drift back towards green once nitrate builds up, the opposite problem to the pale, hungry leaves most fertilisers are built to fix. Easy-Life RedScape (aquascaping Fertilizer) 250ml (SKU: 725121) is the smallest bottle of Easy-Life’s low-nitrate NPK fertiliser, made by Easy Life International in Duiven, the Netherlands, for aquascapes with little or no fish stock that are aiming for stronger red tones rather than simple growth. It supplies the same broad base as Easy-Life’s GreenScape, nitrate, phosphate and potassium plus iron, manganese, magnesium and trace elements including vanadium, boron, cobalt, lithium, iodine, molybdenum, nickel, tin, aluminium, zinc and selenium, but with significantly less nitrate in the mix.

The dose is the same as GreenScape’s, 10 mL per 50 L weekly or 1.5 mL per 50 L daily, in a formula Easy-Life describes as well stabilised between doses. Because RedScape limits nitrate rather than supplying it generously, Easy-Life positions GreenScape as the everyday feed and RedScape as an occasional addition when red colouration needs a push, rather than a fertiliser to run on its own week after week. The maker attributes the stronger colour, along with denser growth and broader leaves, to cytokinin stimulation, the hormone pathway behind cell division. At the standard rate a 100 L tank uses 20 mL a week, so the 250 mL bottle covers around twelve to thirteen doses, enough to run through a red-colouration push in a newly planted aquascape or a smaller tank over several weeks.
