Description
A trace-element blend that enhances purple and blue coloration in corals.
Red Sea’s studies have identified 31 minor and trace elements that, together with the major foundation elements, make up the structure and soft tissue of all corals. The Reef Colors range organizes these elements into four groups (A, B, C, and D), each connected to specific biological functions and linked to the formation of certain color pigments in stony corals. These pigments can only be produced when the required elements are available in the correct concentrations. All stony corals require all 31 elements, regardless of the colors they naturally display.
Each Reef Colors supplement contains elements in the same ratios found within coral tissue and skeletons. Red Sea has also discovered a consistent relationship between the uptake of each color group and overall calcium consumption, which directly reflects coral growth and metabolic activity. This allows hobbyists to safely and easily dose Reef Colors according to measured calcium use.
Reef Colors A, B, and C are each centered around a primary element (Iodine, Potassium, and Iron), which can be precisely measured using Red Sea’s Reef Colors Pro test kits. This makes targeted dosing possible for advanced LPS and SPS systems.
Reef Color D contains a blend of 18 trace elements. These elements support a variety of internal metabolic processes in both coral skeleton and tissue and are associated with the development of blue and purple chromoproteins.
