Calcium is the element reef keepers test most, the clearest indicator of coral growth. Red Sea Reef Care Calcium+ Foundation A 500ml (SKU: RED280) is Red Sea’s calcium and strontium complex for the balanced formation of coral skeleton, blended salts of calcium and strontium, with barium, in the ratio corals use. It is the A line of the Foundation A, B and C set at the heart of the Reef Care Program, and Red Sea’s figure is that 1 mL raises the calcium of 100 L by 2 ppm. The 500 mL bottle is ready to dose, straight from the bottle or through a dosing pump.

Red Sea’s recipes set calcium by aquarium type, 450 ppm for a mixed reef, 430 for an SPS-dominant tank, 465 for a frag system and 410 for an ultra-low-nutrient reef, and the supplement is dosed to the calcium the tank is measured to consume rather than a fixed amount. The method is a four-day test with no dosing, the drop divided by four for the daily dose, then weekly retesting. Red Sea caps the daily rise at 20 ppm and doses magnesium, alkalinity, then calcium ten minutes apart into the sump. A 500 mL bottle raises 200 L by 500 ppm in total.

Dosing & Administration Guide

• Find the uptake: Hold calcium at target, dose nothing for four days, test, and divide the drop by four for the daily dose.
• Calculate: 1 mL per 100 L adds 2 ppm; never raise calcium more than 20 ppm in a day.
• Dose in order: Magnesium first, alkalinity second, calcium last, ten minutes apart, into the sump or high flow.
• Retest weekly: Adjust the daily dose and correct any single element with its own A, B or C supplement.
