Red Sea Reef Care Kh/alkalinity Foundation B 500ml (SKU: RED281) is Red Sea’s carbonate and buffer complex for the balanced formation of coral skeleton, a blend of carbonate and the other buffers present in seawater that maintains alkalinity and, with it, pH stability. It is the B line of the Foundation A, B and C set in the Reef Care Program, and Red Sea’s current figure is that 1 mL raises the alkalinity of 100 L by 0.1 dKH (0.036 meq/L).

Red Sea sets alkalinity by aquarium type: 11.5 dKH for a mixed reef, 8.0 dKH for an SPS-dominant tank, 12.6 dKH for a frag system and 7.0 dKH for an ultra-low-nutrient reef, with the daily change capped at 1.4 dKH (0.5 meq/L). The dose comes from a four-day uptake test and is retested weekly, and Red Sea advises a test kit that measures total alkalinity rather than carbonate alone. Dosing order matters, magnesium first, then this buffer, then calcium, because adding buffer to water saturated with calcium causes precipitation. A 500 mL bottle raises 200 L by 25 dKH in total.
