Red Sea Reef Care Skeletal Elements Foundation Abc+ 5kg (SKU: RED301) contains all the elements of Foundation A, B and C, calcium, strontium, barium, carbonate and magnesium, in the ratio found in coral skeleton, plus the potassium, boron, iodine and bromine of the Trace Colours A and B lines. Red Sea’s figure is that 1 g raises the calcium of 100 L by 1.5 ppm, with the other elements rising in their fixed proportion.

Red Sea’s reasoning is that the mean ratio of elements in coral skeleton is fairly constant across species, so dosing everything in that ratio against measured calcium uptake replenishes the whole set to metabolic demand. ABC+ is dosed daily to the measured uptake of calcium, added directly to the sump with the supplied 20 g and 2 g spoons; Red Sea’s rules are never more than 60 g at one time, larger amounts ten minutes apart, and no one-off calcium corrections with ABC+, which belong to Foundation A. Elements are tested weekly and corrected with the single A, B or C supplements. The 1 kg tub (RED300) suits smaller tanks.

• Add to the sump: Directly, not into top-up water; never more than 60 g at once, ten minutes between spoons.
• Test and correct: Weekly on daily dosing; fix any single element with Foundation A, B or C, not with more ABC+.
