Seachem Acid Buffer 600g (SKU: 724991-243) is an economical, high-capacity non-phosphate chemical buffer designed to reduce pH and lower carbonate hardness (KH) in large freshwater systems. Hard municipal water supplies often contain high levels of carbonates that keep pH above preferred levels. Acid Buffer allows aquarists to gently reduce pH without introducing phosphates that stimulate algae growth.

In addition to adjusting pH, Acid Buffer converts carbonate alkalinity into bioavailable dissolved carbon dioxide (CO2), giving a natural boost to aquatic plants & shrubs. Paired with Seachem Alkaline Buffer, it provides a complete water treatment system for custom pH maintenance.

Usage & Application

When to Use

  • Large Soft-Water Aquariums: Ideal for large aquariums holding South American, Southeast Asian, or discus species.
  • Hard Water Conditioning: Effectively lowers elevated pH and KH levels in hard municipal tap water.

Dosing & Application Guide

  • Add 1/4 teaspoon (2 g) per 80 L (20 US gallons) daily until desired pH is attained.
  • Check pH and KH levels regularly using accurate test kits during adjustment periods.
