Seachem Safe 1kg — Super-Concentrated Dry Water Conditioner for Large Tanks, Ponds and Fish Rooms

A kilogram of Safe conditions a million litres of tap water, which is why fish rooms and pond keepers switch to the powder once their volumes climb. Seachem Safe 1kg (SKU: 725018-387) is Seachem’s complete, super-concentrated dry conditioner for fresh and salt water. It removes chlorine and chloramine and detoxifies ammonia, nitrite and nitrate through a binder that renders them non-toxic while leaving them available to the biofilter, so it can be used during cycling. Seachem states that it is non-acidic, does not affect pH and will not over-activate reef skimmers, and the dry form is the reason it is so economical for large systems.

The dose from the 1 kg tub is 1.25 g, a quarter teaspoon, for every 1,250 L to remove chlorine and chloramine, or 1.25 g per 300 L to detoxify ammonia. Heavy chloramine takes a double dose, a nitrite or nitrate emergency up to four times, and above 30 °C with low chlorine and ammonia a half dose. At the chlorine rate a kilogram treats 1,000,000 L; at the ammonia rate about 240,000 L. It cannot be pre-mixed and stored, lacking a liquid conditioner’s stabilisers, so each dose is made fresh. Seachem also names it for neutralising bleach when regenerating Purigen, about 16 g per cup of water.

Dosing & Administration Guide

• Chlorine and chloramine: 1.25 g (a quarter teaspoon) per 1,250 L of new water.
• Ammonia: 1.25 g per 300 L; double for heavy chloramine, up to four times for a nitrite or nitrate emergency.
• Hot weather: Half dose above 30 °C when chlorine and ammonia are low.
• Mix fresh: Dissolve each dose as it is used; never make up a liquid stock to store.
