Description

Dymax Composeal Beige 50G — Beige bonding sponge that hides glue joints on pale stone and light-coloured hardscape

Gluing a pale stone layout with superglue and tissue leaves white, crusty seams that show up from the front glass for months. Dymax Composeal Beige 50G (SKU: DM158) is the beige colour of Dymax’s Composeal Bonding Sponge, a non-toxic bonding compound that is packed between pieces of rock or wood and then set with scaping glue to give a long-lasting, durable and waterproof joint. Dymax developed it as a cleaner alternative to the tissue-paper-and-glue method, and the compound comes in three natural colours so the joint blends into the hardscape without a cosmetic touch-up afterwards. Beige is the shade for light, sandy and cream-toned materials, and the 50 g pack covers a full layout rather than a single join.

Composeal is used for bonding wood and rock in aquascapes, terrariums and paludariums, and for filling gaps where two pieces do not sit flush. Dymax’s directions are to secure the two pieces firmly together, densely fill the Composeal between them, then apply scaping glue evenly over the Composeal surface, making sure the glue also reaches the opposite side of the joint, and allow a few seconds for it to cure. Dymax pairs it with its own Flora Scaping Glue (DM743a), sold separately. The glue reacts with the sponge as it cures and gives off a small amount of smoke and smell, so Dymax recommends a mask, goggles and gloves, and working in a well-ventilated area, ideally with a fan running. Building the structure on a towel outside the tank and leaving it to air for a while before it goes in keeps the process tidy. Composeal is also sold in brown (DM174) and dark grey (DM172).

Usage & Application

When to Use

  • Pale stone layouts: Light, sandy or cream-coloured rock where dark joints would show.
  • Bleached and light wood: Pale branches and roots glued into a frame.
  • Filling gaps: Bridging uneven contact points between two pieces.
  • Terrariums and paludariums: Building backgrounds and ledges from rock and wood.

Placement & Care Guide

  • Dry-fit first: Position and hold the two pieces firmly together before bonding.
  • Pack it densely: Press Composeal tightly into the gap so it fills the joint.
  • Glue over the top: Apply scaping glue evenly over the Composeal, both sides of the joint.
  • Protect yourself: Mask, goggles and gloves, in a ventilated room with a fan.
