Coralline and other calcareous algae shrug off magnet pads, and working a short razor blade across a large front pane takes far longer than it should. Aqua Medic Scraper 15cm (SKU: AB66000) is Aqua Medic’s handheld glass scraper, item 66000, with a 15 cm wide blade that the maker says makes it easy to remove even the most resistant calcareous algae from aquarium glass. Its distinguishing feature is a hinge that lets the blade head turn through 180°, so the blade can be set at the angle that reaches glass behind rocks or roots sitting close to the pane. A removable blade protector covers the edge between uses and doubles as a squeegee for cleaning the outside of the glass.

Aqua Medic calls it a multiple-use blade cleaner: the same tool scrapes the inside, then wipes the outside once the protector is back on. A reviewer at Reef Builders found the blade very sharp and noted that the swivel neck uses teeth that catch and hold firmly when pressure is applied, so the head stays at the chosen angle during a stroke. The metal blade is meant for glass and should be kept off acrylic, away from silicone seams and clear of the substrate, where a trapped grain of sand can scratch the pane.
