Ordinary vinyl airline does not last long carrying ozone, and a stiffened, cracked line on an ozoniser or a CO2 system leaks exactly the gas it is meant to deliver. Aqua Medic Silicone CO2 Hose – 4/6mm (5mtr Pack) (SKU: AB71614) is Aqua Medic’s silicone tubing for CO2 and ozone, with a 4 mm internal and 6 mm external diameter, supplied as a single 5 m length. The 4/6 mm size is the common size for aquarium gas fittings, so it pushes onto regulator outlets, bubble counters, check valves, diffusers and reactor inlets made for it, as well as the 4/6 mm connections of ozonisers and air dryers such as the Aqua Medic Ozone Booster. Silicone stays soft and flexible, which makes it easy to route around a cabinet and to stretch over a fitting.

In a planted tank the hose carries CO2 from the regulator and needle valve through the bubble counter and non-return valve to a diffuser or reactor. On a reef it links the air dryer to the ozoniser and the ozoniser to the skimmer or reactor intake. Silicone allows a little CO2 to pass through its wall over long distances, so CO2 runs are best kept short; for ozone lines, silicone’s tolerance of the gas is the reason to choose it. A clean, square cut with a sharp blade gives an end that seals well on a fitting, and a non-return valve belongs in any line where water could siphon back towards a regulator or ozoniser.
