Straight tweezers are the natural choice for stem plants such as Rotala and Ludwigia, which are pushed straight down several centimetres into the substrate so they do not float free, and for anchoring the root crowns of Cryptocoryne and small swords. They are equally useful for lifting out dead leaves, snails and uneaten food, and for adjusting small stones and wood pieces during scaping. To plant, hold the stem near its base with the tip, push it vertically into the substrate, open the tweezers and withdraw slowly. Stainless steel resists rust in wet use; rinse after each session and dry the tool before storing so the tips stay aligned.
