Ecoscape Medium Eagle Fern/bouvardia Green

Description

Ecoscape Medium Eagle Fern/bouvardia Green — Mixed-leaf green artificial plant for the mid-ground

A planted look usually comes from several species side by side, but every live species added brings its own light, feeding and trimming needs. Ecoscape Medium Eagle Fern/bouvardia Green (SKU: 28254) is an Aqua One Ecoscape artificial plant that combines two foliage styles on one weighted base: fern-style fronds named for the eagle fern, set with Bouvardia-style leaves, a name borrowed from a genus of flowering shrubs. The whole piece is green plastic, so it shows two leaf shapes in one clump without any of the care a live pairing would need. Retailer listings put Ecoscape Medium plants at about 20 cm tall, a mid-ground height for most tanks.

Aqua One states that Ecoscape plants need no special lighting, supplements or pruning, are safe with destructive fish such as cichlids, carry no risk of introducing pests or parasites, and do not decay, so they keep their shape longer than live plants. The old pack copy for this plant also lists hiding places for fish, fine detail in the leaf shapes and a weighted base for stable placement. At about 20 cm it sits in the middle of a standard 60 cm tank, in front of taller background plants, or at the back of a shallow tank of 30 to 40 cm. Because the fronds and leaves differ in shape, one plant gives the variety of two, which helps in small tanks with room for only a few pieces. Aqua One lists the range for coldwater and tropical aquariums; the photo shows the style, and individual plants may vary slightly. Artificial plants take up no nitrate, so regular water changes remain the main control for nitrate and algae in a tank planted only with them.

Usage & Application

When to Use

• Mid-ground variety: Two leaf shapes in one clump at about 20 cm.
• Small tanks: More texture from fewer pieces where space is short.
• Coldwater set-ups: Greenery for goldfish tanks where live plants get eaten.
• Cover for fish: Mixed foliage for shy species to shelter behind.

Placement & Care Guide

• Rinse first: Rinse under tap water, no soap.
• Bed the base: Push the weighted base into the gravel so it stands straight.
• Turn to show both leaves: Rotate until the fern fronds and Bouvardia leaves both face the front.
• Clean when needed: Lift out and brush off algae under running water.
