Ecoscape Medium Rotala Purple

Description

Ecoscape Medium Rotala Purple — Mid-ground artificial Rotala that adds purple contrast without high light

Rotala is the stem plant aquascapers use for pink and purple tops, but live Rotala only colours up under strong light and good nutrition, and turns green again when either drops. Ecoscape Medium Rotala Purple (SKU: 28271) is the Medium size of Aqua One’s Ecoscape Rotala, a plastic artificial plant styled on Rotala, with small, fine leaves crowded along upright stems, here in purple. Australian retailers list Ecoscape Medium plants at about 20 cm tall. It stands on a weighted base and can be moved freely as the layout changes.

At around 20 cm it sits in the middle band of a 45 to 60 cm tank, or at the back of a 30 cm desktop tank, and a single purple clump among green plants gives the scene a clear point of contrast. The store also stocks the Large (SKU 28279, about 30 cm) and Xlarge (SKU 28288, about 40 cm) in the same purple, so the colour can be carried from mid-ground to the back glass. Aqua One describes Ecoscape plants as non-toxic and aquarium safe, needing no special lighting, pruning or supplements, safe with destructive fish such as cichlids, and easy to remove and clean. The purple will not fade, and the leaves will not melt or decay into the water, which also means no plant debris clogging the filter. A purple plant shows up most strongly against pale sand and dark green foliage, so the surrounding planting is worth planning around it. The range is listed for coldwater, tropical and marine aquariums, and the maker’s direction is to wash and rinse it thoroughly in tap water before use.

Usage & Application

When to Use

• Mid-ground contrast: A purple clump among green plants.
• Standard lighting: Rotala colour without a high-output light.
• Desktop tanks: A back-row plant for aquariums about 30 cm tall.
• Coldwater or goldfish: Colour where live Rotala would not survive.

Placement & Care Guide

• Rinse before use: Tap water only, no detergents.
• Place off-centre: A focal colour looks more natural to one side of the tank than dead centre.
• Step up the heights: Medium in front, Large and Xlarge Rotala behind.
• Clean at water changes: Lift out and rinse algae from the fine leaves.
