Ecoscape Xlarge Hygro Green

Description

Ecoscape Xlarge Hygro Green — Tall 40 cm artificial Hygro for the back row of deeper aquariums

A tall tank with nothing at the back glass looks empty, and growing live stems up to the surface takes strong light, fertiliser and weekly trimming. Ecoscape Xlarge Hygro Green (SKU: 28293) is the tallest size of Aqua One’s Ecoscape Hygro, a plastic artificial plant modelled on Hygrophila, with long, broad green leaves set along upright stems. Retailers list the Xlarge Hygro at about 40 cm, with one plant per pack. A weighted base keeps that height standing in gravel or sand, and the plant can be shifted along the back glass whenever the layout changes.

At 40 cm this is a background plant for aquariums around 45 cm tall and deeper, where it reaches most of the way to the waterline and screens heaters, filter intakes and hoses. In a shallower tank it would brush the surface, so the Large (SKU 28285, about 30 cm) or Medium (SKU 28277, about 20 cm) is the better fit there, and both make a graded bank in front of the Xlarge. Aqua One describes the Ecoscape range as non-toxic and aquarium safe, needing no special lighting, supplements or pruning, and safe with destructive fish such as cichlids. The leaves do not decay and are easy to remove and clean. Retailers in Australia and the UK list the range for coldwater, tropical and saltwater tanks; the maker’s direction is to wash and rinse it thoroughly in tap water first.

Usage & Application

When to Use

• Deep tanks: A background plant for aquariums around 45 cm tall or more.
• Hiding equipment: Screens heaters, intakes and airline along the back glass.
• Large cichlids: Height and cover that big, digging fish cannot destroy.
• Quick makeovers: Instant height in a new set-up before any live plants establish.

Placement & Care Guide

• Rinse thoroughly: Tap water only before it goes in; no detergents.
• Back corners first: Stand it at the rear so it does not block the view of the fish.
• Check the waterline: Make sure the 40 cm height clears the surface and the light.
• Clean in place or out: Brush algae off the leaves, or lift it out and rinse.
