Red Sea Reefcan 40L — Slim 40-litre RO reservoir for a week of top-off on larger reefs

A big reef evaporates several litres a day, and a reservoir that lasts the week saves a daily trip with a jerry can. Red Sea Reefcan 40ltr (SKU: RED442) is Red Sea’s ReefCan 40, the larger of two tall, slim transparent RO water reservoirs designed to hold more water in less floor space. It measures 55 cm high, 17 cm wide and 50 cm deep for a 40 L capacity, and Red Sea rates it to supply the auto top-off of a tank around 500 L for about a week. The clear body carries an embedded water scale, so the remaining volume is read without lifting a lid.

Like the 18 L model (RED441) it has a front refill opening and a rear opening for the ATO pump, tubing and cables that takes any pump up to 5.8 cm across, with a cap that holds the ReefATO+ siphon breaker. Red Sea lists it for the REEFER G2 and G2+ 300 to S-1000, REEFER MAX G2+ 300 and larger, and most Peninsula, MAX E and MAX S models. It does not fit the REEFER 170 to 350, their MAX equivalents, the Peninsula MAX 350, Desktop Cube or MAX Nano Cube, which take the 18 L can.

• High-evaporation systems: Open-top tanks under strong lighting and fans that lose litres a day.
• ReefATO+ and other ATOs: Siphon-breaker cap, 5.8 cm pump port, standard tubing.

Installation Guide

• Confirm fit: Check the cabinet model against Red Sea’s compatibility list before buying the 40 L over the 18 L.
• Install the pump: Through the rear opening with tubing and cable; seat the siphon breaker in the cap if using ReefATO+.
• Fill in place: RO water through the front opening to the scale, with the can standing level beside the sump.
• Watch the scale: Refill weekly or when the level nears the pump intake.
