A mature reef on a Balling-style programme can need five or more liquids every day, and keeping them all on one controller and one app is far easier than juggling several units. Aqua Medic Reefdoser EVO 5 (SKU: AM104205) is the largest model in Aqua Medic’s reefdoser EVO series, five calibratable peristaltic pumps side by side in a single housing of about 277 × 105 × 127 mm, each channel calibrated individually and programmed separately through the Aqua Medic app. Aqua Medic’s listed uses cover trace elements and fertilisers, calcium and hydrogen carbonate for reef aquariums, lime water and automatic feeding of live plankton, and five channels leave room for most of these at once.

Typical layouts give calcium, carbonate and magnesium a channel each and leave two for trace element blends, or in a large planted tank split macro and micro fertilisers with room for a carbon supplement. Each channel runs its own schedule over 2.4 GHz WLAN, with intervals from every second up to daily, and the five touch keys on the front give manual doses and fill the hoses, with an LED showing each pump at work. Calibration needs at least 10 mL per channel into a measuring cylinder, and Aqua Medic advises diluting solutions with RO water where possible. The whole station runs from one 12 V power supply. Because five supply lines and five dosing lines meet in one place, Aqua Medic’s advice to mount the doser over a drip tray and keep it away from cabinet humidity matters more here; humidity damage is not covered by the warranty. Further EVO units can still be added in the app.

• Calibrate every channel: At least 10 mL each, then stagger doses so incompatible liquids are not added together.
