Egg Crate Medium-duty Black (60x60cm) (SKU: 124704) is Aqua Premium’s medium-duty egg crate, a rigid, high-impact plastic grid panel measuring 60 by 60 cm with an open square-cell structure. The open grid lets water and light pass freely through the panel while still giving a flat, load-bearing surface, which is why the same basic product turns up as a sump divider, a filter media support shelf, a base for rockwork and sand, and a light diffuser over fluorescent tubes. Being plastic, it is unaffected by fresh or salt water and will not corrode or rot over years of submersion.

The black colouring is mostly a preference: a black panel sits less noticeably under a shallow bed of sand or behind rockwork than a white one, which is why black egg crate is a common choice in display aquascaping where the grid itself should not be seen. It is cut to size with a hacksaw, tile saw or heavy scissors for anything smaller than the full 60 by 60 cm sheet, and panels can be joined edge to edge with cable ties or aquarium-safe silicone for a base larger than one sheet allows.
