Fluval Biomax Rings (SKU: FA44) are high-porosity ceramic rings engineered to provide optimal biological filtration in canister filters, power filters, and sumps. Designed with a complex matrix of microscopic pores, Biomax rings offer immense surface area for beneficial nitrifying bacteria (Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter) to establish colonies. By converting toxic free ammonia into nitrite, and subsequently into non-toxic nitrate, Biomax supports a healthy, biologically stable aquatic ecosystem. Fluval BioMax rings have a complex porous design that ensures optimal contact time as water passes by for efficient biological filtration and beneficial bacterial growth.

Usage & Application

When to Use

  • Biological Filtration Establishment: Essential stage for cycling new aquariums and maintaining ongoing biological capacity.

  • Filter Refilling & Upgrades: Replace lost or worn biological media during routine maintenance or when expanding filter capacity.

How to Use

  1. Scoop Biomax rings into a mesh media bag or directly into the middle/upper basket of your canister filter.

  2. Rinse thoroughly with clean tap water prior to initial installation to remove transit dust.

  3. Place in the filter after mechanical pre-filtration stages (foam/pads) to prevent waste debris from clogging the microscopic pores.

  4. During filter maintenance, gently rinse media in extracted aquarium water (never tap water) to preserve live beneficial bacteria.

  5. Replace approximately half of the media every 6 months to maintain optimal biological activity.
