The Fluval U1 Foam Insert (SKU: PF131a) is a genuine factory replacement mechanical filter media pad designed specifically for the Fluval U1 Internal Filter. Engineered with an optimal pore structure, this high-density foam pad acts as the primary physical barrier inside the filter, trapping suspended waste particles, uneaten food, and plant debris as water circulates through the unit.

In addition to mechanical straining, the foam pad provides a massive surface area for beneficial nitrifying bacterial colonies to colonise, contributing vital biological processing to keep aquarium water safe and crystal clear.

Usage & Application

When to Use

  • Routine Media Replacement: Swap out clogged, worn, or deformed foam pads to restore optimal filter flow rates.

  • Preventative Maintenance: Replace periodically every 3 to 6 months to ensure continuous mechanical debris removal.

How to Use / Installation Process

  1. Unplug the Fluval U1 Internal Filter and open the top access flip-cover.

  2. Remove the old foam pad from the filter cartridge frame.

  3. Rinse the new foam pad gently in saved aquarium water to remove manufacturing dust.

  4. Insert the new foam pad securely into the U1 media slot and close the filter cover.
