A small ornamental pond or a large aquarium does not need the lamp output a koi pond needs, but it still benefits from the same UV exposure that keeps the water from turning green. AbsoluteUltra Clear Pond UV Steriliser; 11W (SKU: UCP11) is the entry point in Absolute’s Ultra Clear range of UV clarifiers, built around an 11 W quartz-sleeved UV-C lamp in a compact housing that uses the same turbulent vortex flow principle as the larger 36 W and 55 W units: water is spiralled around the lamp rather than allowed to run straight past it, extending the time each litre spends under UV before it exits. Sized for small to medium ponds and large aquarium systems, it forces water past the lamp where the UV light disrupts the reproduction of algae cells and other microscopic organisms, which Absolute states reduces green water and improves clarity without the use of chemicals.

Like the larger models in the range, the housing includes a lamp glow viewing window so the lamp’s operation can be confirmed at a glance, and a built-in UVC cut-out microswitch that automatically disconnects power to the lamp when the unit is opened for servicing, removing the risk of direct UV exposure during a lamp change. The body is UV-resistant plastic designed for horizontal in-line mounting on the pump’s return line, and it is intended for the lower end of the flow range covered by the range, where the 36 W (UCP36) and 55 W (UCP55) models step up for larger systems with heavier pump flow. Because it works physically rather than chemically, it has no effect on pH, hardness or any dosed medication, and it runs continuously alongside the existing filtration rather than replacing it.
