Green water and cloudy blooms keep coming back when the cause is free-floating algae and bacteria that no sponge is fine enough to catch. CANISTER FILTER UV (SKU: X2100UV) is Absolute’s 2,100 litre-per-hour external canister filter with an ultraviolet clarifier built into the unit, so the water is filtered and UV-treated in one pass. The canister sits in the cabinet below the tank and runs water through mechanical, biological and chemical media; the UV stage exposes the flow to ultraviolet light, which damages suspended algae cells and many free-floating microorganisms so they clump and are trapped by the media. It replaces a separate in-line UV unit and its extra plumbing.

UV only acts on what floats past the lamp, so it clears green water and reduces some waterborne organisms but does not touch algae growing on glass, rocks or plants, and it is no substitute for good maintenance. Never look at a lit UV lamp, keep it switched off whenever the canister is open, and note that UV breaks down some medications, so it is normally turned off during treatment. Lamps lose output with age and are generally replaced about every 12 months even if they still glow. With 2,100 L/h of rated flow, on the four-to-five-turnover guide it suits aquariums of roughly 420 to 525 litres. Service the media every four to eight weeks, rinsing sponges in tank water, and wipe the lamp sleeve when cleaning.

Installation & Setup Guide

• Fill and prime first: Load the media and prime the canister before powering on.

• Protect your eyes: Never look at the lit lamp; switch off before opening the canister.
• Plan replacements: Change the UV lamp about once a year and clean the lamp sleeve at each service.
