Description
Cleantech filter; 1700L/hr, 32W with UV light — High-flow external filter with UV clarification for large display aquariums
A 150 cm display with big fish produces more waste than a mid-size filter can keep up with, and the first sign is often water that turns green or hazy between changes. Cleantech filter; 1700L/hr, 32W with UV light (SKU: X1700UV) is the larger model in the Absolute Cleantech pair, rated at 1,700 litres per hour and 32 W, with a UV light built into the filter body. Like its smaller sibling it runs outside the aquarium, pulling water down an intake hose into the media, past the UV lamp, and back up to the tank through the return. The extra flow is what this size is for: more water through the media and more water past the UV light in each hour.
Using the common guide of four to five tank turnovers per hour, 1,700 L/h covers aquariums of about 340 to 425 L, the range of 150 cm and larger community, cichlid or fish-only marine tanks. Heavy stockings such as goldfish, large cichlids or messy predators benefit from running the filter at the upper end of that guide rather than stretching it to the limit. The UV stage acts on suspended algae and micro-organisms in the water that flows past it, so it clears green water but does not remove film algae from glass or decor. UV lamps fade with running hours and are normally replaced on a schedule; keep the UV off while dosing live bacteria or light-sensitive medications. For tanks of about 200 to 260 L, the 1060 L/h, 18 W model (X1060UV) is the better fit.
Usage & Application
When to Use
- Large displays of about 340 to 425 L: Four to five turnovers an hour in a 150 cm class tank.
- Heavy bio-loads: Goldfish, large cichlids and big predators that foul water quickly.
- Algae blooms in open water: UV for green water that keeps returning after water changes.
- Replacing two smaller filters: One high-flow external unit in place of several internals.
Installation & Setup Guide
- Plan the hose run: Keep intake and return hoses short and free of kinks to protect flow.
- Seed the media: Add some mature media or a bacteria starter, with the UV off for that period.
- Fill, then start: Prime the filter with water before switching on; never run it dry.
- Service on a routine: Rinse mechanical media in tank water and check the UV lamp on schedule.
