Most mid-size sump systems run some chemical filtration all the time, whether carbon to keep the water clear or an iron-based adsorber to hold phosphate down, and both need containing. Aqua Medic Filter Bag 2 22 X 30cm (2 Pcs) (SKU: AM42902) is the middle size of Aqua Medic’s filter bags (item 429.02), supplied as two 22 × 30 cm bags with zip fasteners. Aqua Medic designs them to hold fine filter media such as activated carbon, Antiphos Fe and other granular media, and lists them for use in freshwater and saltwater alike. The zip fastener means media can be tipped out and replaced quickly, and the bag used again.

The 30 cm length is double that of Filter Bag 1 on the same 22 cm width, so it carries a larger charge of media spread more thinly, which helps water reach all the granules instead of channelling through a packed lump. It suits a dedicated media compartment in a sump, the floor of a filter chamber where it can lie flat across the flow, or the trays of a larger canister filter. With two bags in the pack, two media can run side by side, for example carbon in one and phosphate adsorber in the other, each changed on its own schedule. Rinse new media before use and leave the bag loosely filled.
