Description
Mantis Media Reactor – Mr200 — Large up-flow reactor for carbon, GFO and bio-pellets on big systems
A large display tied to a sizeable sump needs its chemical filtration scaled up to match, and running two small reactors side by side is rarely as tidy or as effective as one reactor built for the volume. Mantis Media Reactor – Mr200 (SKU: MA069403) is the largest of the Mantis up-flow reactors, a hand-crafted 100% acrylic chamber rated for activated carbon, GFO or bio-pellets on tanks up to about 1,200 L. Water is driven in at the base and forced upward through the full depth of the media bed via adjustable 20 mm hose barbs, so a large charge of carbon or GFO is worked evenly rather than channelling along the path of least resistance the way loose media in a sock or sump corner would.
The Mr200’s chamber holds about 4,000 mL of media, more than double the mid-size Mr150, in a body measuring roughly 180 × 180 × 450 mm, the largest footprint in the range. Mantis suggests a pump around 6,000 L/H to keep a bed of that volume tumbling evenly without dead spots forming at the base or the media packing solid under its own weight. The acrylic construction is scratch and discolouration resistant despite the larger size, and as a passive chamber with no motor of its own, it simply runs off whatever dedicated pump is plumbed to the inlet. It is built for systems that have outgrown both the Mr100 (SKU: MA069401) and Mr150 (SKU: MA069402), sharing the same up-flow principle at a scale suited to a large display or multi-tank system.
Usage & Application
When to Use
- Large display tanks: Systems up to about 1,200 L needing substantial chemical filtration.
- Heavy GFO or carbon loads: A 4,000 mL chamber for a large charge of media changed on a set schedule.
- Multi-tank or frag-room systems: One large reactor instead of running several smaller units.
- Bio-pellet filtration at scale: A bed large enough to support nitrate reduction on a bigger system.
Installation & Setup Guide
- Site the reactor: Allow space beside the sump for its 450 mm height and the hose run.
- Connect the hose barbs: Fit 20 mm hose from a dedicated pump to the inlet barb.
- Load the media: Rinse carbon, GFO or bio-pellets and pack the full chamber before sealing it.
- Tune the flow: Run a pump near 6,000 L/H and adjust the outlet until the whole bed tumbles evenly.
