Description
Dainichi Ultima Krill 100g Baby (1mm) Sinking Pellets — Krill colour pellet sized for fry and small cichlids
Fry and small juvenile cichlids cannot take the same pellet as the adults in a grow-out tank, and switching them onto flake too early often means missing the growth and colour benefits a dedicated cichlid formula delivers. Dainichi Ultima Krill 100g Baby (1mm) Sinking Pellets (SKU: 101470) is the 100 g trial pack of Dainichi’s Ultima Krill formula in the 1 mm Baby sinking grade, an all-purpose maintenance diet for omnivorous and carnivorous cichlids built on shrimp, Antarctic krill meal and white fish meal rather than a fry-food substitute. Spirulina algae carries much of the colour load, and calcium montmorillonite clay supports digestion in young fish still adjusting to a pelleted diet.
The guaranteed analysis is crude protein minimum 43%, crude fat minimum 6%, crude fibre maximum 3%, moisture maximum 9% and ash maximum 9%. Wheat germ and wheat flour are the main starch sources, soybean meal and brewers yeast round out the amino acid profile, and milk powder, vitamin mix, mineral mix, garlic, beta glucan and protease complete the recipe. Dainichi’s directions are to feed two to four times daily, only what is eaten within about a minute, and specifically not to pre-soak the pellets, since soaking is said to wash out colour enhancers and nutrients before feeding. The 1 mm Baby grade is the smallest in the Ultima Krill range, sized for fry and small juvenile cichlids rather than the mid-size Small or large-adult Medium grades.
Usage & Application
When to Use
- Fry and small juveniles: A 1 mm grade sized below the Small and Medium pellets.
- Grow-out tanks: Young cichlids being raised on a dedicated colour-enhancing diet.
- First-time purchases: A 100 g pack sized to confirm the fry take to the pellet.
Feeding Guide
- Two to four feeds daily: Offer only what clears within about a minute.
- Favour small feedings: Frequent light feeds suit growing fry better than one large one.
- Never pre-soak: Soaking is said to leach out colour enhancers and vitamins.
- Step up the grade as fish grow: Move to the Small size once mouths outgrow the Baby grade.
