New Life Spectrum Cichlid Sinking 150g

Description

New Life Spectrum Cichlid Sinking 150g — Everyday 1 to 1.5 mm sinking pellet for a single cichlid community tank

A cichlid tank with six or eight fish needs a staple that works for the algae pickers, the omnivores and the occasional hunter, without a shelf of different tubs. New Life Spectrum Cichlid Sinking 150g (SKU: 102286) is the 150 g jar of New Life Spectrum’s Cichlid Formula in the regular 1 to 1.5 mm sinking pellet, made in the USA by New Life International. The maker describes it as a slow-sinking pellet with an optimised formula and improved ingredients, built on its Spectrum Nutrition Formula. South Antarctic krill and herring are the main animal ingredients, joined by an algae meal of seaweed, kelp, Haematococcus pluvialis and spirulina, a fruit and vegetable extract and garlic included generously.

The pellet falls slowly enough that mid-water cichlids can take it as it drops, and anything that reaches the substrate is picked up by bottom-oriented fish. The size suits dwarf and mid-size cichlids, juvenile mbuna and peacocks, and smaller Central and South American species; larger fish may prefer a bigger pellet. According to New Life Spectrum there are no added hormones, and the colour-enhancing ingredients are natural. The maker’s feeding direction is twice daily, with a portion that is eaten in a minute or less and no overfeeding. The 150 g jar is the first step up from the 80 g trial size: enough for one community tank or a pair of smaller ones, with 300 g, 600 g and 2.2 kg packs available for larger set-ups.

Usage & Application

When to Use

• Mixed cichlid communities: Rift lake and American species sharing a tank.
• Daily staple: A base diet to which frozen foods can be added during the week.
• Juvenile mbuna and peacocks: Young fish that can handle a 1 to 1.5 mm pellet.
• Medium-sized tanks: A pack matched to one display aquarium.

Feeding Guide

• Twice daily: An amount finished within a minute or less.
• Disperse the pellets: Feed in a few spots so dominant fish cannot hold the food.
• Stop at a minute: Overfeeding clouds the water in a crowded cichlid tank.
• Store dry: Keep the lid on tightly after each use.
