Description
New Life Spectrum Cichlid Sinking 300g — Mid-size jar of 1 to 1.5 mm cichlid pellets for heavily stocked rift lake tanks
A Malawi tank with two dozen mbuna eats a lot of food, and a 150 g jar is gone before the next order arrives. New Life Spectrum Cichlid Sinking 300g (SKU: 102287) is the 300 g jar of New Life Spectrum’s Cichlid Formula in the regular 1 to 1.5 mm sinking pellet, made in the USA by New Life International. The recipe sits on the maker’s Spectrum Nutrition Formula and is tuned for omnivorous, herbivorous and carnivorous cichlids at once. South Antarctic krill and herring lead the animal ingredients, with an algae meal of seaweed, kelp, Haematococcus pluvialis and spirulina, a fruit and vegetable extract and a generous amount of garlic.
Because the pellet sinks slowly, mid-water fish get first pick and the rest drops to the substrate. At 1 to 1.5 mm it works for juvenile and small-to-medium cichlids, including mbuna, peacocks, rams, dwarf species and smaller New World fish. New Life Spectrum says no hormones are added and that the colour comes from natural ingredients. Its directions are to feed twice daily, in an amount eaten in a minute or less, without overfeeding, and heavily stocked tanks benefit from that discipline because uneaten pellets add to the load on the filter. The 300 g jar is about two 150 g jars and suits a well-stocked display or a keeper with two or three cichlid tanks. A 600 g pack and a 2.2 kg pack sit above it for breeders and fish rooms.
Usage & Application
When to Use
- Heavily stocked rift lake tanks: Mbuna and peacock displays fed daily.
- Several cichlid tanks: One jar covering a small fishroom of modest tanks.
- Growing juveniles: Young fish that need steady daily feeds.
- Replacing multiple foods: A single staple instead of separate herbivore and carnivore pellets.
Feeding Guide
- Feed twice daily: Offer only what is gone within a minute.
- Use two feeding points: Reduces fighting over the pellets in crowded tanks.
- Watch the filter load: Cut the portion if uneaten pellets accumulate.
- Keep it dry: Reseal the jar after each use.
